Sydney to Paris Via Singapore and Dubai.

The heavy rain this morning added to the drama of flying out. I am a nervous flyer so a bumpy start until we got away from the East Coast weather event was a challenge but I used all my newly acquired breathing techniques and I have to say they really help along with all the advice from seasoned travellers I have spoken to in preparation.

The views of this great Southern Land were fantastic. I think I saw Lake Eyre and definitely Port Headland. We had to go into a holding pattern when we got to Singapore so I got to see the Island twice then a sudden pull up because of something on the runway meant I saw it three times. Singapore Airport does not have overhead announcements the quietness hits you just as much as the humidity. Today is a balmy 34. I’ve missed the hotel shuttle so take a taxi to my hotel which cannot be described as ‘close by’ to the airport as it said on the packet. But what a delightful journey, the taxi driver was a gem and the comfortable drive gave me a look at this beautiful place and enjoy the gardens along the way, Birdsnest ferns growing up in 30mtr high trees and Bougainvillea shaped into rivers of pink hedging just WOW!. We speed along and chatted about my travel plans. There was almost a crash when I told my driver I was going to Spain to walk for 50 days. He kept turning around and saying ‘wow you so fit you so fit’ hilarious I only hope he’s right! Too late to go out wandering or for a swim as I had planned. Dinner in the hotel and of course a Singapore Sling and it’s off to bed for me! A great days travel and so pleased I am having this stopover.

Many more messages of safe travel and Buen Camino all making for a wonderful first day on my journey to come.
