Day 43

It’s a misty start to the day as I cross back over the river to join the Camino. The crowds are still here but far more subdued than yesterday, perhaps the mist is calming everyone down after yesterday’s heady excitement of their first day on Camino.

We walk up and through pine forests on a soft path. Once the mist lifts the day is sunny and by the time I get to my Alburgue I am roasting.

I have a number of short days planned as I get closer to Santiago, I really want to take my time over these last days.

I check into my Alburgue have a very cold shower (not by choice), a Cerveza Limon, which is a Spanish shandy and very refreshing! A chat to Ron at home and then I have the afternoon to sit and relax in the sun, with my feet up!

This is a tiny town it takes me two minutes to walk to the end and back and see the highlights.

Then I sit in the shade and watch the parade of pilgrims walk, limp, cycle and taxi past a few arrive to check in like me enjoying a short day or just escaping the heat of the day.

I have dinner with two sisters from Ireland and a Canadian guy I met back at Trabadalo. It’s a hoot of an evening. I try the Octopus stew. Octopus is big in Galicia it’s really good not what I expected at all, rich tomato broth with octopus and potato, one to add to my ‘learn to cook’ list.

Distance walked 13km

Total Distance walked 696

Elevation 700m

Distance to Santiago 80km

Knees, feet and shoulders very happy to have had an afternoon off!

Hope you get a nice hot shower next stop! So close now! Great idea to take your time & enjoy the surroundings, for us armchair travellers your journey seems to have gone too quickly. I enjoy reading your blogs with my morning coffee even though the horses are calling for their brekky & Casey is sitting at the door ready with his stick & Barney? Well he’s still snoring in his bed 🤣 Enjoy & stay safe xx🥰
