Day 45

I have really been looking forward to getting to Melide, it is a town famous for Pulpo – Octopus. It’s odd because it’s not on the coast but it is an important dish here and served elsewhere is referred to as Galician Pulpo. It’s delicious and tender it served with lots of olive oil, salt and some paprika, you eat it with a tooth pick and mop up the oil with bread. I started dinner on my own but ended up talking with a couple from Canberra we had a great fun sharing our Alburge experiences and the delights of communal living and the things we are looking forward to at home.

The walk here was interesting, more little villages and lovely forests. This large basket is similar to the larger structures for storing corn.

This St James was standing opposite where I stopped for my morning break of cherries and Limon.

As I left the Alburgue this morning a Spanish guy asked me if I knew the way to the Way, we ended up walking together for a while, he had only decided to do a Camino the week before he started-the beauty of living in Spain. His name was Santi – as in Santiago a popular name here in Spain, Saint James in English.

I also bumped into the couple from Wellington, I have been seeing them off and on again for a while, they took the lovely photos of me by the large shell reflected in the pond. Also the Irish sisters, whose enthusiasm and joie de vivre is absolutely infectious.

Distance walked 14.5km

Total Distance walked 722.5km

Elevation 515m

Distance to Santiago 53.7km

Looks like you are having a lovely leisurely stroll Sharise to saviour your final days, and good on you. It must be a bit surreal for you knowing that you are almost at the end of your amazing journey. The country-side looks beautiful too! How marvellous, and with good weather by the look of things too.

I love the “ large basket” and would like one for my firewood 🪵 if you can manage it! Haha 😅

    Xx
