The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert is one of my most favourite films. I new that Lasseters was used as a location in the film so we just HAD to stay here! It’s modern and large and very comfortable. There’s a pool, restaurants and a casino. We are taking it easy this morning. I feel like I’m on holiday not travelling interesting how the two are different. On holiday you can sleep in, read by the pool relax! Travelling you are on the move, adventuring sight seeing. I wonder how I can watch Priscilla while I’m here.

This morning I head to the pool, I can’t remember the last time I had a swim. The water is fabulous it’s 9AM and it’s already very hot. I just float around watching the birds and the clouds. Off in the distance are the large rocky hills that enclose Alice Springs swooping above these are two wedge tails eagles. I do some handstand and somersaults, it’s so wonderful being weightless. One of my Mums absolute favourite thing to do was to swim she loved it so much even when she was so sick she wanted to go swimming it gave here great relief and fond memories of her youth. It was a lovely moment being reminded of this in a pool in the middle of Australia.

We head off exploring, firstly we visit the Alice Springs Telegraph Station. This was the first European settlement built here in 1871. The establishment of the station was a very important development back in the day it enabled contact to Britain via Darwin and Indonesia. Prior to this communication was via sea taking about 4 months, now telegrams could be sent using Morse Code in 5 Hours. The displays and information boards are fascinating. There are details and photos of the first families who stayed at the station, gosh they must have been tough we are sweltering in the midday sun. There is also details of the period when there was accommodation here for 130 children, these were the children removed from there families by the government because they were of Indigenous and European descent. This is also where the actual Alice ‘Springs’ is located, this area is now a National Park there are great walking tracks into the town but it’s way toooo hot for me to walk today.

Next we head for ANZAC Hill. Here there is the ANZAC cenotaph and great views of Alice and lots of flys!

Back to the hotel to swim and read by the pool, oh and enjoy a G&T while watching 40 women do aqua aerobics! I recon it was even to hot to do that!
