Australia Day

Today we walked at Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) these are a further 50km West from Uluru. There is actually a sign that says WA Border. Can’t imagine what that drive would be like definitely for the brave! There are only 2 small walks you can do here. By the time we get there it’s 37deg so we just go into the first look out at The Valley of the Winds. You can hear the wind whistle through the gap in the rocks (only just above the buzz of the flies) today the walk will close at 11AM for safety reasons due to the heat.

The walking here is rocky and some bits a little steep, poles would help. There is a little bit of shade. It’s a loop walk of about 7.5KM not for us today. We head to the other spots to enjoy the views of the full size of Kata Tjuta.

We return to the township of Yulara and visit the Gallery/Museum where there is wonderful art. One of the gallery employee picks up a didgeridoo and suddenly the space is filled with the most perfect sound it was a pinch yourself moment. There is a good exhibition of the flora and fauna in the arid area’s. I think this will be our only chance to see any, then in the car park we find a gorgeous lizard so delicately sitting on the path I’m sure it’s a statue until it moves.

Back to our hotel for something to eat and a beer. It’s Australia Day but there is no celebrations or bbq or flags or blown up thongs about. I see an aboriginal man with the aboriginal flag wrapped around his shoulders.

Back in our room aircon showers and respite from the heat of the afternoon. I try to find a movie that fits my mood something that’s fit for purpose on this day. I watch Top End Wedding. It’s perfect a very simple boy, girl, love, hens night, wedding, journey all with a Tiwi Island flavour. What a way to spend a day! Wonderful.

Hi Sharise .As you know our petrol is expensive here.Ranges from $2 .08 to $2.20 something. I buy 98 and that is $2. 58 I think. The museum reads as a must see place and to have air conditioning must have been great. 💐🌟

Meiji had to do a speech about Kata Tjuta as if she was a contestant on Australia’s Got Talent! All i can remember is that she is made of conglomerate rock, but quite different to Uluru, was named after Queen Olga (when it was called the Olga’s) and the Dream Time story included a serpent!
