Hazelbrook ~ Lawson

Getting ready for a Camino is not just about the walking. I have suddenly become obsessed with containers their size weight and necessity. Today I took my full pack for an outing with my new ‘official’ hydration system my pack weighed 8.6kilos. Some rethinking to be done.

The path from Hazelbrook to Lawson is via a Fire Trail, a small creek to cross and some rocky terrain.

My observations are that I can spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about lunch at the end of the walk and weather to have a take away gozleme or go to a cafe with seats and aircon & bathroom. The later won out.

When you have a backpack on people stop and talk with you, I don’t think it happens if you just look like you are catching the train to work or a show. Today I had a lovely conversation with a complete stranger, we shared tips on blisters (his preferred method nylon socks) we talked travel he having been to Kati kati in the North of NZ and the great pleasure he had in seeing so many Lupins when in the South Island a reminder of his home in the UK and the joy that is living in the Mountains.

Food was not the only thing occupying me on today’s walk. The tiniest of lizards, Mountain Dragons I think, to fast and small for a photo but very precious to see on a lovely Mountains trail.

Distance Walked;

About 9.5km

Wrong turns taken; 1

    Enjoying your posts Sharise! Yes, I remember well, the trial and error of every little think you’re going to take. Soap was one thing; I tried so many! Spent so much money. Hahaha! In the end I took a bar of Dove sensitive with the plan to buy any old bar of soap if/when it ran out.
