The Food

Liz and Alanโ€™s dinner.

My Sister and Brother in-law shouted me dinner in Paris for my birthday (which was prior to my departure). (Thank you Liz and Alan) This is my dinner in Paris on you!

Restaurant Lโ€™Epidon is near my hotel and was an exceptional dining experience. Entree is a prawn, avocado and mango tartare with a burnt crust on top. Main course is roasted lamb with vegetables and dessert a cream brรปlรฉe which comes out on fire, a flombe. The restaurant is tiny there is a lady taking the orders and serving the food and wine and a gentleman chef. The menu is very simple โ€˜Traditional homemade food using fresh ingredientsโ€™ Cuisine traditionnelle fait maison a partir de produits fraisโ€™

There are only about 14 seats inside, I have such a great time chatting with the waitress and eventually the chef who brings me a glass of something at the end of the meal, a digestifs, Perfect!

French Onion Soup.

Soupe ร  l’oignon franรงaise

I have grown up with French Onion Soup (from a packet to make dip!) this is the real deal. Itโ€™s a very tasty stock which is full of flavour and onions topped with toasted bread sprinkled with Gruyere and Parmesan then grilled just prior to serving. superbe!

Breizh Cafe

My cousin Georgia suggests I try the pancakes at Breizh, I am walking slowly back to the hotel exhausted from all the fun of the dayโ€™s adventures. Itโ€™s too early for dinner, I happen to walk past Breizh in Saint-Germain, itโ€™s a sign I decided and have to go in, it really is never too early for anything. I donโ€™t feel like a sweet so decided to make this dinner, why not!. Oh wow! I have seen the white asparagus all over Paris in the fruit and veg shops while out walking, they are delicious, the whole dish is wonderful. I enjoy this with a glass of cider which is a thing at Breizh the buckwheat comes from Brittany and makes a great pancake.

croissant aux framboises et crรจme de pistache

The French have such a passion for food and drinks, every street has a cafe, restaurant, bar, specialty food store or wine shop. I really enjoyed trying a taste of France in Paris.

Now I have journeyed South and am the Basque Country, this is a region with great pride in all things Basque. I have tried some seafood dishes and the Basque chicken. I am looking forward to heading to Spain tomorrow and the excitement of my first steps on the Camino.
