Day 23

I call into the bar before I leave town, there is not a lot of choice so cafe solo, and yoghurt cake it is. Great coffee and the cake is light and tasty. As I have my breakfast I read comments from yesterdays Blog, a friend Tessa sends me a picture of herself and the host, here Eduardo I show him and we laugh, he says “we have picture too!”

The air is cool and the sky is blue. A lady from the States joins me as I walk. We have a similar pace, we met a town ago and she shared her wine. We have a lovely walk along the canal which was originally for moving grain between towns.

Along the way we bump into the lady who is walking with a three wheeler walker. We chat and she tells us more of her story. After a while she gives us a bookmark each. They have Kansas Sunflowers on them, she painted them herself. My friend and I had been talking about Vincient Van Gough and his sunflowers for the last little while, she has a motorhome called Vincient such is her love of Vincient and his sunflowers.

We stop at a bar for lunch. There are donkeys, geese, farmers, hammocks and a Reiki Master. Wow! I move on but my friend stays as there is also an Alburgue.

The last 6km are flat, hot and hard. I put my headphones in and just get it done. As I approach the town it looks like it is on the coast and there is ocean behind it, but it’s not it’s more fields of green.

I don’t have a booking but this is a biggish town so am not panicking. As I wander into the town I see a sign Alburgue, it’s in a Monastery, the man behind the counter does not look that old but talks a like Yoda! I have a choice, dorm for €12 or my own room with bathroom and towels for €25. I ask you what is a girl to do? The room is wonderful it’s very clean simple comfortable and so quiet. There is a feather quilt and even liquid soap in the shower.

After domestics are complete I head into town much bigger than I thought. A supermarket, shops, cafes and bars. Kids are playing in the plaza and sports fields.

I bump into pilgrims I know, we go for a beer and then, I chat with two other women, a man rides his horse down the Main Street. We decide to go to a nearby restaurant for “Menu of the Day” I have the Russian Salad, it’s potato, mayo, tuna, capers pressed into a terrine like shape, delicious. There is a choice of chicken, beef or rabbit stew for main course. I have the rabbit its wonderfully tender piece of meat on the bone and the stew is full of flavour. Dessert is a chocolate mousse. It comes in a container, it’s like the instant pudding we had as kids with cream on top. Perfect. A really enjoyable way to end the day we chat about the Camino and our lives back home.

Distance walked 25km.

Elevation 850m

Total Distance walked so far 367km.

My Fitbit tells me I am averaging 31000 steps a day!

Love the photos Sharise, beautiful! Such interesting days and adventures. I have an atlas open with Spain, and with each blog try to plot your journey. But alas nearly all the towns are too small for the map. However, I google each town to try to find a nearby bigger town to locate your whereabouts, but even this technique proves difficult, and only occasionally I find a marker. Like the town of “Burgos”. Sometimes the town’s name is common with many other towns by that name, but they all have additional names, and even then, it can be

opps….sent it early sorry. Don’t know how that happened?

…….difficult if not impossible to locate. But I know where your final destination is, so can figure out roughly the pathway that you are on.
Anyway, we are enjoying your adventures immensely. It was Ginger’s 21 st the other day and we managed to have a wee celebration dinner tonight, which was lovely. She is off to Sydney tomorrow for work experience, so that will be exciting for her.

Stay well and keep the adventures coming.
