Week One – A long walk
I’ve just had a couple of weeks leave from work. I stayed home – well kind of.
One of the things the Blue Mountains Camino Supporters group does is host a five day walk once a year, here in the Mountains. (Full disclosure I am on the Admin team). We started from Emu Plains at the base of the Blue Mountains and walked to Blackheath at the top. It’s just over 90km. There were thirty five of us walking the route.
One of the People joining the walk was Susan from Florida. Susan and I met in Spain when we were walking the Camino Frances last year. We walk as fast as each other – which is well – slow! I am still amazed and delighted to have had Susan come all the way here to join our 5 Day Walk and stay with Ron and I. We had a great time – it rained every day, but we made the most of it. Just as when you’re walking in Spain you have to keep moving, even when conditions aren’t perfect. I loved showing Susan our beautiful Mountains even though some days the visibility was not great. We still got to see the highlights – eventually…
We also squeezed in a game of pub trivia, a winery, a late night gig and celebrated my birthday at home with Ron.
Walking a Camino in Spain has had some surprising rewards – even almost a year later!
